The United Arab Emirates or the UAE is a federation of seven emirates comprising Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm-al-Qwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The UAE is located in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the South, as well as sharing sea borders with Qatar and Iran.
The Capital is Abu Dhabi, which is one of the two centres of commercial and cultural activities, together with Dubai. Islam is the official religion of the UAE and Arabic is the official language.
The UAE is the sixth richest country in the world with an average income per capita of USD47,439. The country has recorded a GDP of USD360 billion in 2012, which places them in second position in the GCC after Saudi Arabia, third in the MENA region after Saudi and Iran, and 30th position in the World. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the major power houses in the country.
Dubai will be hosting the prestigious World Expo 2020, a great recognition of its international standing and credibility. The President of the UAE H H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan comments; “Our Country possesses all it takes to successfully organize a unique event that will add a new and outstanding imprint on the Expo series of events”. The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum comments; “We renew our promise to astonish the world in 2020. Dubai will bring to life our vision: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
